Many bands have secret pasts they hope the world will never discover. Some were cheesy childhood stars, others some were in groups they’d rather forget, many were terrible teachers who got bullied by their own classes.
Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander was (and still is) proudly an actor, while bandmate Mikey Goldsworthy waited at a swanky restaurant. However Emre Türkmen has a unique pre-music claim-to-fame that trumps his friends' – he designed all the toilets at Brighton & Hove Albion’s football stadium.
A former architect, in Cash For Questions in this month’s issue – on sale now in print and on digital – when asked by Q’s readers whether anything he’s designed had actually been built the guitarist, Türkmen reveals he was in charge of sorted out all the public conveniences at the ground.
“I worked on Brighton And Hove Albion’s football stadium and I’ve seen Brighton on telly, so it has been built! I did everything on that – I drew every urinal position,” he tells Q’s Paul Stokes.
Not that he’s shy about trumpeting this achievement. “He talks a lot about the toilet doors, how they swing in,” laughs Goldsworthy, leading Türkmen to jokingly boast that he “can plan a toilet better than anyone you know! It’s an art!”
