Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer have told Q how they upset Morrissey with consumer advice.
The pair the subject of the latest Cash For Questions interview in our new issue, out now, and they address rumours that The Smiths’ frontman loathed their Big Night Out puppet – voiced by Bob – Morrissey The Consumer Monkey.
“Did he hate it? So we were told. It wasn’t anything to do with him, the monkey just took his name,” explains Vic, while Bob notes: “It’s a funny thing to take offence at, he gave advice on what freezers to buy...”
The pair insist it wasn’t a slur on the singer and were always supportive of both Morrisseys.
“It wasn’t anything disparaging. I was on his single That’s Entertainment, I sang backing vocals,” explains Vic of his pro real Moz credentials. “Pete Burns from Dead Or Alive told us in a very flamboyant way that he was, ‘Absolutely upset about it!’”
