sineadoconnor1Sinead O’Connor has scoffed at suggestions she’s on the verge of becoming an elder stateswomen of rock’n’roll as she returns with her most joyous record yet, I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss.

Speaking in our new issue, Q339 out today (26 August) as this month’s Maverick feature (“The world Maverick equals lone wolf and I see myself as a lone wolf,” she smiles approvingly. “My little kids ask me, ‘Are you famous?” and I say, “I’m imfamous.’”) after an eventful career she casts a sage eye over the music industry and the current breed of pop stars, but she insists stateswomen status is not something she’s gunning for.

“Could I be an elder rock’n’roll stateswomen? I don’t think so,” O’Connor tells Q's Sylvia Patterson.

“Loose cannons don’t make stateswoman category. I’d rather be the pirate queen!”
