Richie Hawtin/ Plastikman: “Electronic music deserves to be in the Guggenheim!” (Q338 preview)

richiehawtinRichie Hawtin - DJ, producer and the chap behind Plastikman - has told Q electronic music deserves its place among high culture.

Speaking to Rupert Howe in our new issue, Q338 out now, the musical pioneer discusses his new Plastikman record EX which was recorded live at New York’s Guggenheim, explaining that it is a natural progression for his music to have emerged from underground and made its way into the modern art museum.

“Given the chance to make music in the Guggenheim, you’d be a fucking it to say no!” he explains. “What an opportunity! That’s where we’re at in the history of electronic music right now. I think it deserves to be in the Guggenheim. Some of my old fans might think, ‘He’s lost the plot.’ But you can only follow your dream.

“I’m proud of everything I’ve done, both musically and how I put myself out in to the public.”
