“Their first few albums took me somewhere else in terms of my confidence,” he tells Paul Stokes. “I used to be a shy little guy when I was younger and Wu Tang really helped me belief in myself and accept myself. When I was younger, coming from an African background wasn’t cool in my school. Everyone used to take the piss and make funny names and that kind of shit. I used to listen to Wu Tang and the way they were so raw I loved that energy – I remember reading an interview where one of them was taking a shit while he was doing it! – they were just “this who we are, fuck you if you don’t like it”.
“I listened to the music and became this confident kid. Everyone else at school was listening to S Club 7 so I felt even more cool.”
