With Q celebrating its 30th birthday with a special issue – out now in print and on digital – Johnny Marr has spoken about the making of The Queen Is Dead, one of the Modern Classics of Q’s lifetime.
The Smiths' guitarist discusses making of the record and why he felt it was going to be a unique album in a brand new interview.
“Going into the album [The Queen Is Dead] felt different from the others,” he tells Q’s Pat Gilbert. “Because of the success of Meat Is Murder and the momentum that the band had gathered, I thought we needed to go up a notch creatively.
I was in my usual mode of fearlessness and pride – it helped to be young and to know that you are in the best rock’n’roll band in the world.”
