Jake Bugg has written a song with Beastie Boys' Mike D… but it’s not on new album On My Own because he hasn’t heard the finished version yet.
Speaking in the new issue of Q, out now in print and on digital, the Nottingham singer-songwriter explains he met the rapper while recording at Rick Rubin’s Shangri La studios where he recorded his second album (named after the studio) and arranged to work on some new material together.
“I wanted to try a few things out with a couple of producers. Nothing came of it but just to work with him was inspiring,” he tells Q’s Chris Catchpole, adding that he blamed himself for not having fully formed songs when they met.
However there was one track that showed promise, but Bugg is yet to hear the final take.
“They still haven’t sent back the tune we were working on,” he grins. “I wouldn’t mind, but it was called Waiting [laughs]. It’s fucking taking the piss.”
