“I am the cosmos!” Oasis’ Maine Road 1996 homecoming revisited (Q358 Preview)

oasis-main-road-spread-q358“I am the Cosmos” was Noel Gallagher’s simple, original caption for the image above, shot at the start of Oasis’ Maine Road homecoming shows… well it was a long weekend.

In our new issue – on sale now in print and on digital – we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 1996 Manchester gigs with a special feature.

Including memories from those there at the time, photos from Jill Furmanovsky and interviews with the band themselves, get the new Q now for the full, special feature.

So what exactly was Noel going on about?

“That’s what it felt like. The cosmos!” he told Q's Sylvia Patterson after the gigs. “At that point, it’s better than the gig, cos you haven’t played a note. If you look, everyone’s got their fucking arms in the air and that’s a proper celebration. At the end of that gig there was kids on the roof, helicopter over the gig, it was like fucking Vietnam, it was mega, proper mega.”
