The Norwegian synth-pop star on how Grimes’ 2015 record helped shape her world.

“I discovered Grimes when I moved from my hometown Alesund in Norway to Bergen after high school. I was in my friend’s bedroom in her shared flat and we were drinking wine and getting ready to go out and see a local band. She put this on and I’m like, “What is this? It’s insane!” The way Grimes mixes screaming and whispering and these amazing pop choruses all in the space of three minutes I found unbelievable. I love how aggressive it is. She expanded what pop was for me, and what I thought it could be. Grimes was a big influence on my song Don’t Kill My Vibe because it made me realise I wanted to make pop music that had something to say and was maybe a bit aggressive too. Music that could be angry and had proper emotion in it.”
