Festival Playlist – Oslo's Øya Festival 2016 by the booker

PJHarvey-2016-2Oslo's Øya Festival returns this summer between 9-13 August. To guide us through the bill to Norway's premier festival booker Claes Olsen has made us a playlist with some personal pics from the line-up. "For 2016 to the festival will be returning Oslo’s stunning Tøyenparken city park," he explains. "The unique festival boasts an enviable billing of some of the world’s greatest and most diverse musical talent, set in breathtaking surroundings. The festival has a capacity of just 17,000, creating an atmosphere described by previous attendees as ‘truly egalitarian’ and a ‘utopia’." Indeed...

Highasakite – Someone Who`ll Get It "They have gone the grades at Øya and are now ready for the headline slot. This is the first single from their new album which comes out worldwide in May. The previous album has been in the top 40 album charts in Norway for 107 weeks now!"

PJ Harvey – Sheila-Na-Gig (pictured) "One of my favorite artists of all time. Have tried to book her since we started Øya, finally we made it. Please don´t call me during her headline set!"

Great News – Secrets "The best new band from Norway for many years in my book. Two amazing singles is out there. Check them out."

Anohni – Drone Bomb Me "This track is so strong and massive in many ways. Check out the video too. One of few festivals she does in Europe. Have had the pleasure to listen to the album, and it is very fresh and great."

Frøkedal – Cherry Trees "After being in lots of band for a decade, Anne Lise Frøkedal finally goes solo. Her debut album just came out. She got signed after we did a secret show with her on a farm outside Oslo under the full moon two years ago."

Anderson .Paak – Am I Wrong "Glad we booked him early. He ruled SXSW this year, and pretty sure he will deliver one of the best live shows over the festival summer."

Band Of Gold – But In The Movie Baby "Winner of this years Nordic Music Prize. Will do an unique show at Øya featuring Reine Fiske from Dungen."

Lush – Light From A Death Star "My favorite track from my favorite Lush album. This track was more than once an opening track when I made mixtapes to give away in the nineties."

Jamie xx – Girl "Jamie have been to Øya twice before, once with The XX and once as dj. Looking forward to his big new show."

Fidlar – Sober "You don´t want to be Sober when you see Fidlar´s amazing live show. Tried to get them for some years. This will be their first time in Norway. Give me cheap beers too."

New Order – Restless "Would have been natural to choose one of their many classics, but with that damn good 2015 «Music Complete» album they are on the top of the league. Believe it or not, but this is their first show in Oslo since 1983!"

Haim – Forever "First saw Haim in a bar with twenty something people at CMJ in NYC in 2011. 6 months later the the buzz started. They offered me to release «Forever» on my label, but I had just closed it down… bad timing."
