Festival Playlist – Shiine On 2016 by the organiser

echoandthebunnymenNot all festivals about booking new bands, and in fact the Shiiine On Weekender which returns this year between 11–14 November at Butlins Minehead is all about booking classic acts. Echo & The Bunnymen, Black Grape, Orbital and The Bluestones on the bill for the first time, organiser Steve Aston has made Q a playlist of some of his personal favourites from the bill.

Echo & The Bunnymen – The Cutter (pictured) "We have connections to Liverpool and there is no cooler musician than Ian McCulloch. Phil Smith, the man who has roadied and DJ around the world with The Stone Roses and Oasis, has begged us to allow us to DJ before they come on. Mac is his hero. The Cutter is one of the finest tracks of its era and also the track which inspired the name Happy Mondays."

The Wonder Stuff – Dont Let Me Down Gently "A band who closed last years event in style last year. We had to have them back after their rip roaring performance. From the Hup album this was their first top 20 hit."

House Of Love – Shine On "This bonafide classic was the first cassette single bought by James and also surprisingly not what the festival is named after, despite what people say…"

Orbital – Chime "One of the greatest dance tracks ever to be released. Paul Hartnoll will be headlining the closing party at this years bash and it is an hour to have such a pioneer performing."

Cast – Fine Time "Having seen the band play live a number of times recently we can confirm they are on top of their game. Their John Leckie produced debut single Fine Time will no doubt be a highlight of the festival this year."

Marion – Sleep "A band who were on the verge of greatness until their untimely down fall and lauded by the likes of Johnny Marr – who produced their second album – Marion return for Shiiine On playing their epic debut This World And Body. Sleep still sounds as good today as it ever did."

The Freestylers – B Boy Stance "What a track! Breakbeats finest The Freetsylers will be playing live at this years event and this we fully expect to take the roof off."

Echobelly – King Of The Kerb "It is great to have Echobelly back and we can’t wait to hear this one blasting out. One of the finest Britpop singles ever released."

Love & The Family Tree – Phoney’s & Freaks (Show Me The Truth) "Love & The Family Tree is the new project from Gaz Whelan and Rowetta from Happy Mondays and also features rapper supreme Sugar Mike. The music they’re creating is truly brilliant and ones to catch at the festival, where they will be performing a festival exclusive for us."

Cellar Doors – Frost "Showcasing unsigned bands is as important to us and booking established acts. There's a lot of great guitar bands about at the moment and we are pleased to have Deja Vega, Echo Raptors, Uke 2, The Spitting Pips, Trambeat, The Black Jackals and The Spitting Pips back to play again this year. After last years festival, we went to San Francisco and bumped into a couple of lads who told us they were in a band. Turned out they are rather marvellous and are now getting attention now on BBC Radio 6 amongst other stations. We are pleased that they have agreed to come over to play Shiiine On and the Liverpool Pysch festival."
