New York's Ratatat have just returned with new album Manifique. It's reviewed in our new issue, out now in print and on digital, but here's Mike Stroud from the band answering five questions for us.
WHO would play you in the film of your life? Jeff Goldblum!
WHAT are you currently working on? Achieving the right amount of facial hair for my bone structure. Narrowing in on a perfect chinstrap right now. I think it’s a keeper. I’ve also been practicing a lot of pedal steel guitar so I don’t look like an idiot at our record release show tomorrow. We’re about to tour for the next few months so it’s gonna be pretty impossible to work on new music til next year.
WHY do you do that thing you do? Playing music is pretty fun! I started playing guitar when I was 11 and I don’t think I’ve gone more than a few days since without playing. I’m pretty OCD and practicing music is a good way for me to channel that, rather than touching the same doorknob or washing my hands like a thousand times a day – which I still kinda do a lot – I get to improve on an instrument instead. I guess I get to do it for a living because I got lucky and the right pieces fell into place, namely working with Evan, my bandmate.
WHERE do you see yourself in ten years? At my house in the Catskills. Hopefully I’ll have a real studio built by then and can record and produce anything I want from home. Or i could go the other direction and maybe be at a party in LA with Piven and Connick Jr. I’d be just as happy either way.
WHEN will there be a harvest for the world? That might be a question for Goldblum...
