Noel Gallagher: “An Oasis reunion? It’s always a possibility…” (Q344 Preview)

Noel Gallagher is on the cover of our new issue – Q344 out Tuesday (27 January) pre-order your copy – and he’s spoken directly about the possibility of Oasis reforming.

Revealing to our writer Mark Blake that both him and brother Liam Gallagher have been together since the band split, Noel says no one has yet tried to book the band to play live again… and while he would consider it, the price would have to be right.

“Nobody has made us an offer. I’ve been in the same room as Liam, and even then nobody’s said, ‘Weren’t Oasis great? You should re-form.’” Noel tells Q. “But if I was ever going to do it, it would only be for the money. This isn’t me putting it out there, by the way. Would I do it for charity? No way. We’re not that kind of people. For Glastonbury? I don’t think Michael Eavis has got enough money. But would we get back together one day? As long as everybody is still alive and still has their hair, it’s always a possibility. But only for the money.”

With his second solo album Chasing Yesterday out at the start of March, Gallagher stresses he’s not in any rush to resurrect his old band, particularly having watch how previous reunions have fared with fickle audiences.

“Look at The Stone Roses. When you’re constantly getting asked if you’re going to re-form, you can only keep saying, ‘No’ until you say, ‘Yes’,” he observes. “I’ve never spoken to [Roses guitarist] John Squire about this, but it’s like John got bullied into saying, ‘Yes’. Now the Roses have re-formed, no one mentions them any more.

“I think it’s ingrained in the English psyche – this idea that the glory days, the Empire, are behind us. Led Zeppelin! The Smiths! The Jam! They should all re-form! Why? So a load of middle-aged people can stand in the O2 and go, ‘They’re not as good as they used to be’.

“It’d be the same with Oasis. ‘Yeah, we’re not as good as we used to be.’”
