Elbow’s Guy Garvey: ‘Making a solo album was terrifying’ (Q343 Preview)

Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has spoken about the fear he felt while making his forthcoming solo album.

Discussing his first record under his own name in our new issue, Q343 out now, the singer tells Dorian Lynskey that working alone kept him up at night.

“I was terrified, I was wondering if I could do it without the lads [in Elbow] because I’m so used to having their opinions,” he admits. “It was very tense, very hard work. I didn’t do a lot of sleeping for two weeks.”

However on hearing his work-in-progress, his Elbow bandmate gave their endorsement for the record due out this later year.

“I got their nod of approval when I played it to them,” Garvey explains. “They’re all dead proud of me, so I’m chuffed.”
