Biography

As leader of The Auteurs, Baader Meinhof and Black Box Recorder, and latterly as a solo artist, Luke Haines has been producing deceptively barbed indie vignettes for 15 years, without ever translating the critical acclaim into consistent sales. Coming across like a misanthropic Ray Davies, in 1994 he had seemed poised for success with The Auteurs - who had taken their inspiration from The Small Faces and The Kinks before their Britpop contemporaries - but then scuppered things by falling off a wall and breaking both ankles.
