LUCINDA WILLIAMS

Biography

Singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams has long been a cult among the musical cognoscenti, her infrequent but brilliant country-inflected albums earning her the sobriquet "the female Dylan". Her first few albums - starting with '79's Ramblin' - were on small labels, and it wasn't until 1998's Grammy-winning Car Wheels On A Gravel Road, coincidentally her first major-label effort, that she found top gear. Although Time magazine named her "America's best songwriter" in 2002, she still remains largely unknown to the general public.
