XTC

Biography

Coming straight outta Wiltshire, XTC were one of the most eloquent new-wave bands to emerge at the end of the '70s. Led by Andy Partridge, their early work was characterised by typically angular and jerky post-punk riffs, but by the mid-'80s, their sound had gradually evolved into lush and thoughtful classic pop. Yet despite consistently glowing reviews, XTC have had minimal impact on the charts since the early '80s, although going "on strike" for six years between 1992 and 1998 - and the fact that Partridge?s chronic stage fright has meant they last played live in 1982 - did their profile little good.
