Our first trip to London was on August, 2004. Everything was new to us,
everything seemed like an opportunity. There were so many venues, so many
concerts, and so many bands. My mother gave me the phone number of her
friend’s son who worked for the BBC, he was Peruvian. I said to myself “We
are Peruvians, we can help each other”. I called him after arriving to
London. He told me about his friend Louise Kattenhorn, producer of the John
Peel show. John Peel is recognized for being the discoverer of promising new
bands. We met with her and left our record in her office just when we were
leaving the building we see John Peel himself leaving the office. Maybe because of our
heritage and looks, he recognized where we came from. Before he took a cab
he turned around with our album in his hand and said “Hey you Peruvian Rock
band!! I got your CD”. Who would’ve guessed that one month later we would
hear the news of John Peel’s death in Cuzco-Peru the land of the Inkas.
Later we would find out that the New Tent was named the John Peel Stage in
his honour. That’s how our dream to play at the Glastonbury Music Festival
began....
