The “nu rave” standard-bearers’ debut bagged the Mercury Prize, but they deserve a special award for transforming from derided fad to respected rock stars in 12 months. Attaching quasi-mystical imagery inspired by JG Ballard and Aleister Crowley to a set of danceable art-pop anthems provided the substance for their annus mirabilis. Norah Jones may have denied them the Number 1 album spot, but Klaxons remain one of 2007’s most exciting newcomers.
