In terms of ambition and invention, the Sunderland trio’s second album was a huge step up from 2005’s eponymous debut. Andrew Moore and brothers David and Peter Brewis upgraded their cerebral power-pop with lush strings, labyrinthine melodies and, on Sit Tight, a human beatbox. In just 30 minutes, Field Music delivered 11 wry observations on the perils of modern living every bit as compelling as their forebears XTC and Elvis Costello.
