The Veils return with a new album Total Depravity on 26 August. To get us au fait with the record, singer Finn Andrews has answered five questions for us.
WHO would play you in the film of your life?
I would ideally like a different actor to play each of the significant periods of my life, much like in Todd Haynes’ Dylan biopic I’m Not There. Off the top of my head I’m thinking a recently reanimated James Cagney playing me from ages 5-7, Vanessa Redgrave from 7-18, and the character Ludo from The Labyrinth, this time controversially voiced by the character Hoggle also from The Labyrinth, from 18 right up until my untimely death in a tragic blimp accident over the North Sea.
WHAT are you currently working on?
We just finished our new record, Total Depravity. So now I’m drawing tornadoes every day. Sometimes crocodiles. I have absolutely no idea what to do with them all, but at least my fictional children can eat them when we run out of money.
WHY do you do that thing you do?
I do it out of faith, familiarity, pomposity, and most importantly contempt.
WHERE do you see yourself in ten years?
I’ll be 40 then which’ll obviously be totally shithouse, but I hold out hope I might at least have learnt to be a stronger swimmer. To answer your question more thoroughly however, I see myself walking through a quiet, Tuscan piazza where a distant radio is playing a 16th Anniversary reissue of Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0. I cough briefly from the smoke of a thousand distant cities burning and shed a tear. I clutch my mutilated wrist in my one good hand then slowly gesture up to Mrs. Malpensa who is by now standing naked on her veranda shouting at flies. “Good morning,” I say. We never speak again.
WHEN will there be a harvest for the world?
I read the other day that you could feed the Third World almost entirely with just what the First World throws away, which is possibly true, or possibly not. Either way we both have a lot to answer for so see you in Hell.
