It was 30 years ago today that Paul McCartney told the band to play… well maybe not to the day, but this month we celebrate three decades since the Beatle graced the cover of Q1 with a special 30th Birthday Issue.
On sale from Tuesday (31 May), we take a look back at the greatest music released within Q’s lifetime… with a little help from the people who created it.
Kicking off with an exclusive interview with this month’s cover star and avid reader (so avid he’s reading Q in the sea!) U2 frontman Bono takes stock of the last 30 years, while Paul McCartney (of course) is back to provide the introduction to this special the issue.
Also, joining in the celebrations are Johnny Marr, Manic Street Preachers, Kasabian, Suede, The Prodigy, Muse, Bat For Lashes, The Charlatans, James Bay, Brandon Flowers, Thurston Moore, Noel Gallagher, Richard Hawley, Years & Years, Foals, Primal Scream and more who talk to us about the music of Q’s lifetime in new interviews, highlighting their favourite albums and much more.
Additional, Q’s team of experts have boiled down the most important records created on Q’s watch (so far) to 476 albums, which we examine in detail across this special edition.
“They are all Modern Classics which thrillingly re-shaped the sonic landscape,” says Q’s Senior Editor Matt Mason of our selections. “They’re the documents that tell the fascinating story of music in Q’s lifetime, full of their own mysteries and tales – laid out by our writers over 120-odd pages. I’m sure people will disagree with some of our selections and approve of others. We’re confident that it’s a robust distillation of all the noise into unimpeachably great music. And, really, that’s what Q’s always been about.”
In addition to our selections, print editions* of Q come with a 15-track, specially curated, Modern Classics CD showcasing music from the likes of New Order, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Billy Bragg, The War On Drugs, Lambchop and more – read the full tracklist now – plus there’s a poster featuring The Stone Roses and Arctic Monkeys (pictured).
Get your copy – in print or on digital – on sale from Tuesday, 31 May 2016.
Plus to mark our birthday you can currently get a year’s subscription to Q for £30.
